I saw another review for this saying the software wasn't available. Ok, I first thought that too, but it's not the case. The model number is shared across a whole range of radio's for different bands. If you follow the specific link on Moonraker's website for the 4m version, the software it takes you to is in fact the correct version. If you simply search AT779 software, the version you'll get is wrong and won't work. Ok let's talk about the radio. It works, it seems pretty sensitive, with 4m being as it is selectivity isn't really an issue anyway, although I've not had reason to think it's not acceptable. Power output is roughly as quoted, but on high power the radio does get worryingly hot, on one occasion it seemed to go into some sort of thermal runaway, the display went dim and the radio was in meltdown, quite a scare. As soon as it cooled down it had fully recovered and I've just not run it for long periods in tx on full power since, instead I've built an external PA (based on an old Pye A200, for the old timers out there) and run the radio on low power. For me the most frustrating part of that the mic is hard wired, something I'll address when the warranty is out. Volume control is rubbish, it's not an analogue pot, but an encoder and there's no real adjustment at the lower end. It's a tiny radio and easy to program once you find the correct software. Audio reports are good, and recovered audio is acceptable on it's tiny internal speaker but loads better on an external speaker, like many radios. Great little radio, especially for the price and absolutely no regrets in buying it. In fact, if they ever come back in stock, I'll be buying another to use as a the mover in a 4m parrot repeater I'm planning.

Programming software, -anyone?

Not software-supported by Chirp or Anytone. Strangely, the manual names the unavailable programming software filename and mentions Starting (in Window XP system). I doubt this rig was manufactured 20 odd years ago :-) .

Good job this nice little rig will spend the bulk of its working life a channel or two either side of 70.450MHz!
