An Excellent Antenna for DX
Review by
Tim
I received the PA144-14-9-BGP (N-Type connector) instead of the -BGE with a 7/16th DIN, which was a shame because I had already bought a cable with a 7/16th DIN, but I have kept it since I didn't notice the connector was incorrect until it was built! Anyway, I have compared it with my 9 Element OWL from Innov. Obviously, the 9 element is a shorter antenna (5M Vs 8.6M) with lower gain, but the comparison was interesting. Firstly, the build quality from DUAL is far superior to Innov. Secondly, the DUAL is sturdy and much stronger, which is reassuring since I live 240 meters up in the Black Mountains where the wind is unforgiving. I measured signal strength on a local beacon and measured noise. I'm seeing +3dB improvement in signal, which is expected because of the higher gain/longer boom but -3dB drop in noise level, so my overall signal to noise has improved by +6dB over the Innov 9 Element OWL when mounted in the same position. I am very impressed with this antenna.
