A little floppy in the wind
Review by

Good SWR across all bands with the built in tuner on the 991A.
In the wind it moved a lot more at the top then I was expecting , the top sections of Ally are very small tubes.

The best antenna if you match it with the right coax length

As soon as I lengthened the coax I was a happy camper from 40 to 6 meters. I guess for 80 meters I’ll need a longer coax, but I’m happy DXing all over the world on those frequencies

Works very well receive and transmit.

I got this because i wanted a easy to put up vertical beside my house and aluminum tubing has gotten expensive. I was and am very happy with it. I compared it to my rotatable tribander on the roof on receive and transmitting 5watts to various WEBSDR's from maine to Hawaii and australia and found it was within 5 db signals from 7mhz to 28mhz. I didnt try on 80m as I dont use 80m yet. From 7 to 25 mhz the swr is less than 3 and in the ham bands less than 2.5. I would recommend this antenna for fixed or portable use in a field.

Works on all bands except 80m with 50' LMR-400 and LDG IT-100 ATU on any rig (IC-746 & IC-7300). Any sellers should do a bench test and update the specs. That said, works perfectly on all other bands. Good launch angle for DX but not so for local ground wave for some reason. Anything closer than 20 miles needs line-of-sight. On construction, there is a serious problem. At the base internal of the lower bezel is a wire connecting the whip to the balun inside the gray enclosure at the bottom. There is no weatherproofing or drainage so when it rains moisture gets inside the enclosure and causes shorts. I had to take it apart and place silicone over the holes above and below. In addition, I drilled a drainhole in the side of the bezel and put a short length of thick wicking material so if there was any pooling it would drain out. Just putting a hole doesn't work unless it is large enough to break the surface tension of the water. I also placed several silica gel packs inside the enclosure plus more silicone where needed. But, after a year it was time to check inside the enclosure and I noticed rust on the top of the enclosure where the screw holes are despite the screws inserted at the bottom. I proceeded to remove the screws but the heads stripped despite using a screwdriver tip specifically for that head size. Nonetheless, with all the work I did even in the heaviest of rain, the ATU still tunes it up perfectly and able to radiate. FT8 proves this. I am now seeking to replace the antenna and looking into something similar with better construction and weatherproofing.

feel i have a good starter aerial

i am new to HF so wanted something that wont break the bank but will let me dip my toe in the pool so to speak, this aerial gives me good reception and my internal tuner on the yaesu FT-450D can tune from 6 -40m no trouble, i dont yet have an external ATU to work on improving the 80m tuning but am happy with what i have for the price.
