For best results you will need a counterpoise wire or earth.

ok unles conditions are really good you not going to work VK on this ant with 5 or 10W, But saying that for a ant that is easy to carry and set up in the park on a table and somthing like the FT817 you can work around the EU and i have manged just a contact in to the US. it is not gods give to QRP DX but it works and you can have a lot of fun with it portable or manpack it seems to do a good job on my clansman 320.

After reading reviews and watching you tube videos I thought this might be a useful addition to my portable set up for a forthcoming trip to Lanzarote being light and portable ideal for flight baggage. How wrong could I have been I have tried these in several different configurations and have only made two contacts on 17m on the car mobile static with and without counter poise 2 contact on 17m then on a ground spike again with and without counter poise nothing. Been licensed since 1999 and biggest waste of money yet. I will not be wasting any more time with these they are in the bin.

I originally picked up this antenna with SOTA activations in mind; but I also found it works well on top of my car. I usually use the 2m band from the car but I've used this kit to swap out to other bands occasionally and found it surprisingly effective. I made my first HF contact with this antenna on 20m approximately 1,600kms whilst mobile. It'd work well for POTA/SOTA activators, those looking for a compact mobile antenna, or those who are just occasional HF users who don't want a permanent set up for the odd call.

Perfect partner for the Yaesu FT-818

Do not dismiss this antenna pack, coupled with the Yaesu FT-818 or 817 and you have the perfect combination for when you are out and about but do not want to carry a full-on field setup. Very fast to setup and the storage box is roughly the same size is the FT-818. This certainly looks like would also be the perfect, compact companion for the Icom IC-705 and the many other portable "QRP" HF radios.
All I would recommend adding is a grounding radial if your wanting to "cover the bases" but I have had some very impressive results in the FT-818 with this antenna and my body as the counterpoise (2.5-watts) 1000-miles or so on 17m.
