Works well but could be better

I have now owned this 3 years and never given me a problem.
It hasn't weathered very well compared to my genuine diamond antenna which had been up 25 years.
It is slightly out of band (too short) but still gives a good swr across 4m.

Good purchase, improved range!

I bought a second hand Anytone AT-288 and needed a base antenna, so looked at the site and bought the new 5/8 wave. It arrived promptly but not being ready to put it up outside I put it up in the loft until I can move it out in the clear!
My QTH it a bit low and so I am never going to work a lot of DX from the loft on 40m but I can now reach a mate some 4 miles away! I have spoken to another ham at a much higher QTH in Kingswood OK so I just have to put it on a pole out the back 25 to 30ft up to improve matters!
Very well made and the SWR is 1.5:1 – Sorted! Another good purchase from Moonraker, well done guys!

OK but not great

I tested the SQBM458 using a RigExpert AA-1400 antenna analyser and the resonant frequency is 71.625MHz, well above the amateur allocation. The 1.5:1 VSWR points were 70.687 to 72.687MHz, again outside of the UK Amateur band.
On 70.400MHz the VSWR was 1.6:1 at an RL of 13dB, Z 77 ohms and R of 77 ohms.
So it appears to have been cut a bit too short for the claimed 70 to 72MHz 1.5:1 VSWR range.

This antenna is well made, I’m assuming it’s a 5/8wave going by SQBM458
It’s very good, works extremely well, no problem
SWR 1.1 across the whole band

Replaced a 4m dipole with this and was surprised how much better signals were. A friend who used to be 5.3 is a 5.5 on this antenna so very pleased.

Quality aerial, giving excellent performance

I have been into 4m since I was first licenced in 1988.
Over the years I have used a variety of aerials, from a cut down VHF Band 1 TV aerial, to the present offerings of which this is one of the latest from Moonraker.
I am fortunate in that my QTH is elevated at 200m asl, which gives me a range of views up to 80miles (on a clear day!!) and good V/UHF TX/RX.
I am also a GB2RS Newsreader which includes 4m intended to cover Gt.Manchester and Cheshire, but my transmissions reach as far away as Wales and IOM.
My previous aerial suffered some mechanical damage in a recent storm so I needed a replacement, and chose the SQBM458 as a replacement.
The aerial is well built yet weighs only 1.2kg which makes it easy to assemble.
Performance wise, it provides me with a transmission that is better than I have ever known on 4m, with good, usable reception reports from as far afield as Birmingham and Anglesey.
It handles my 40watts with ease with an SWR around 1.5:1, fed with 8m of RG213 cable.
An excellent piece of kit, and useful for the serious 4m operator.
