I purchased this poower supply as my shack one died a death the day before. I looked at various power supplys and picked this one as it has everything I needed to run my shack, it powers my FT-710,SCU-LAN10,mAT-30 and other items without a hitch. Only using 25watt power on my rig allows plenty of amps left in case I add anything else. The price for this power supply is so low I might even buy another when i do up the power on the rig when my licence allows. Well packaged and not heavy compared to other 30amp power supplys I have used before.

Great value 30A SMPS
Review by
This PSU was purchased to replace a 30yr old linear supply that had become troublesome. The PSU arrived in a double box and is surprisingly light. I like the choice of having either a variable 9-16v control or a fixed 13.8v output, selectable via a switch on the rear apron. The twin meters are illuminated and indicate both dc out and current drawn, simultaneously. On the front of the PSU are two sets of sprung, low current, connectors for ancillary equipment and a car 'cigar' lighter socket capable, in theory, of supplying 10A. As well as the adjustable voltage control, there is a 'noise offset' control which allows a noise spike generated by the PSU switch mode circuitry to be moved away from any spot frequency it appears on. I've not really had to use this control as the PSU RF-wise is nice and quiet. I can see some very low level noise bands when using an SDR and an active vertical antenna but these are so low as to not be noticeable under normal operating conditions. The noise offset control does move these a few kHz either side, so it does what it purports to do. This PSU is fitted with a fan, which comes on from time to time (dependent on transmit/receive ratio and shack ambient temperature). The fan is rather noisy but is only on for a short while. I will be modifying this (as many others have) once the 2 years warranty has expired, by replacing the fan with something like one from the 'Noctua' range of PC fans (I have a couple in my PC and they move a good amount of air, but are also very quiet). The rear of the PSU has the switch for variable/fixed dc output and a pair of high current screw terminals (they also accept standard 'banana' plugs). The remainder of the rear apron is taken up with the fan exhaust/ventilation holes. This PSU can supply 30A continuous, with a peak of 35A which is a useful overhead. I had not realised that when my shack is running as normal the current draw is 6A! That is from 2 x HF radios and various accessories such as DSP audio filters, lamps in various meters and a couple of MFJ QRM eliminators. My old linear supply was beginning to struggle with high current loads, which would trip the radio off and on during transmit if I went above a certain power output. This PSU does not suffer from that ailment! In my personal opinion, this PSU represents very good value for money. At a smidgeon under £70 (you may be able to get a further discount from supplier web offers) it is certainly at the lower end of the price spectrum for PSUs. Don't let that put you off though. I did a few hours research before deciding as there are various horror stories about SMPS all over the web. This is one SMPS that won't give you nightmares. Should your current requirement be in excess of 30A, there is a 50A version of this supply available. I have no experience of the larger supply, but there is no reason it would be any worse than this one. This is a genuine review, I purchased the PSU because my existing supply was becoming problematic.
