Surprisingly good performance for the price!

I already have another HT that I use regularly, but having read about some of the custom firmware and flexibility I wanted to give it a try on a cheap HT that I wouldn’t be too bothered about.
I was surprised that the receive quality is actually really good on this - bargain for anyone looking for a first or cheap little handheld!

Amazing little radio
Review by

I took a punt on this little handheld simply for the amount of community input that allows you to change the bands etc by hacking the firmware. It was worth £25 just for the entertainment value of getting to know its ins and outs and simply playing with it. Get one. You won't be disappointed.

Reasonable quality. Good tx audio.

This radio is of a reasonable quality. The screen is clear and back light is bright. The menu system is very good, it has the 5 settings for repeater programming in one place. Audio is clean and bright sounding. Am reception is distorted on aircraft band. I have had good audio reports on my local repeater.
A good first time radio for the beginner and then some.

Great handheld for the price
Review by

This is one of the cheapest handhelds I have purchased so I was a bit unsure to if it was any good. Well as soon as I received the unit I looked at the quality of it and i must say I was pleasantly surprised. What a great radio for the price you will not get any better. Once I had all my repeaters programmed in I was off and away talking to all my operators which gave good feedback to a good all rounder handheld. You can see why they sell out very quickly. You will not be disappointed if you buy this radio.

Great little radio
Review by

Great little radio connected to outside aerial works a treat. Battery life appears to be good. Programming with Chirp can be troublesome but not the radios fault. Programmed all my local repeaters etc so now ready to take it mobile probably using a different antenna but will try it with it's stock antenna.

A good little handheld. Not so good on AM reception though. I upgraded the Antenna to a Super-elastic Signal Stick from Signal Stuff (USA), which improved signal strength on 2m &70cm. Easy to progam using Chirp-Next or the QuanSheng free software. You will need a Kenwood type style lead. I used a Retevis, but a Baofeng USB / 2 pin programming cable should be fine. All in all a great little handheld.

A lot of radio for little money!

Having had three Baofeng handhelds, I was impressed by the enhanced capabilities of the Quansheng. I think the power output is a little lower than the Baofeng and I'm still to fully get to grips with the repeater settings but all in all, it's a good radio.

Good so far

Very intuitive. A good guide leaflet. Repeater shift foxed me. It’s menu item 8. Offset is item 9.
Memory name is mentioned but not explained. Computer and lead needed I expect. Enjoyed it so far.
Quick dispatch from Moonraker.

Updated power measurements.
Review by
Liam
My previous power measurements were taken with the battery around half full. With the battery fully charged, on the high power setting I'm getting just over 4W on VHF and just over 4.5W on UHF. On the low power setting I'm getting just under 3W on VHF and just over 3W on UHF.
It would be good to have a low power setting output of 1W or less but I think the high power setting outputs with a full battery are respectable enough.
This is currently my go to dual band handheld, far more intuitive and less cryptic than my VX-7R. At the price it's no big deal if I break or lose it, of course I would rather not do either but a replacement wouldn't break the bank.
