I took a lot of time to look at the Rfinder before I made the purchase from Moonraker and it is quite hard to get information on this radio online. The best advice and guidance I received came from Moonraker and I made the purchase. I think this is a really excellent product. It's nice to hold and operate and very well made. It reminded me in physical size of a PMR radio I used at work although clearly this radio is cutting edge with a cracking display. It's fairly easy to use and there is great online support via forums and from the makers. This radio is a long time coming and has had some bugs in the past. So far I have found it to be very reliable and there are software updates coming every week just now. They are easy to install and when you turn on the radio you get an alert to tell you the software has been upgraded. You press a button and in about 5 seconds the download is complete and you simply reboot the radio for it to take effect. I am sure that there will be many more updates and developments as this product grows. Hope this helps.

This is a very nice radio. Firstly the build quality is right up there, I can't think of one thing that doesn't seem right. It is respectably responsive, fast enough for me to be happy and it has proved to be a good general purpose ham radio accessory as well as what it was primarily designed for.

As a DMR/FM radio, it works well. The directory feature is revolutionary and genuinely very useful indeed. Knowing all the repeaters about you can only be useful! My experience using DMR is limited but I have certainly heard signals from my local repeater and it sounds very decent. The 'Promiscuous' mode is excellent, letting you hear all the groups so that you can switch to one you hear a signal on. I have yet to make a lot of use of the DMR radio side, it will take some time simply because it''s a new mode for me. As an FM radio it is as you would expect but with the added value of the repeater directory. The only criticism here is when applying the parameters of the chosen repeater, there is quite a delay. I would have expected near-instant response to this but it is a good five or six seconds. Not a major issue though. Perhaps that will be improved.

There is a newer feature which is experimental, DMRoIP. Direct access the the Brandmeister servers from the radio, without a hotspot. It works, but is certainly a work in progress and this is acknowledged in the forums by the developers. Updates are frequent which I like to see.

It is great in other respects as an accessory. I listen to Hackgreen SDR using Firefox at work and you can install other network radio apps and use the 'other' ptt to transmit on those apps. Anything you possibly already do with your Android phone really.

I waited a couple of years before buying this radio, kept reading the reviews and comments. I bought this with the facts in mind that it is revolutionary, there are frequent updates to add to it and improve it and some parts are experimental. Keep that in mind and you won't be disappointed. The price is high, but there is a lot of quality and many features for the money, but that's an individual point of view for everyone. Do join the Facebook group as there is quite a lot of chat and help there. I am glad I bought it but there is a lot more to learn!
