Excellent Wideband Performance – Better Than Expected
Review by
Marco
Before trying this double discone antenna, I had some doubts about its efficiency. Wideband designs often involve compromises, but this antenna proved me wrong.
Performance is excellent across a wide frequency range, both in reception and transmission. Unlike multiband collinear verticals, it has no coils or capacitors that can introduce losses, resulting in a cleaner and more efficient signal.
I use it together with a Comet CAT-283 VHF/UHF antenna tuner, which makes it usable on virtually any frequency.
Thanks to its wide bandwidth and high efficiency, it can pick up very strong signals; with lower-quality receivers, an FM notch filter may be necessary to avoid overload.
Build quality is solid and precise, with robust hardware that inspires confidence. The radial screws are equipped with locknuts; however, for extra security, a medium-strength threadlocker can be applied.
Overall, this antenna exceeded my expectations and is definitely recommended.

V good performer

I've got one installed in the loft - as a comparison, it's actually working better than my D777 for V/UHF aircraft so I'm very pleased. I suspect it produces a rather nice RX pattern.

I've only a simple antenna to compare with this so obviously it is a great improvement. It is mounted in my loft and so I can't comment on its weather resistance but it is well made of good quality and does the job I bought it for.
