Nice little meter

This is a nice little QRP to medium power meter. SWR and average power readings are close to my other meters. It's a nice size and is attractive. On the down side - PEP does NOT indicate Peak Envelope Power. The only indicated difference between AVG and PEP readings is that in PEP there is a little hang time on the meter. The power indicated is identical. The meter does NOT indicate Peak Envelope Power. However, I didn't expect it to as there are no active components in the metering circuit, so, I was not disappointed. It's still a nice little meter.

This meter is very simple to use. Cable in and cable out and that is all you need. The metal body makes this a nice meter which has minimal parts and does it's job quite well.
Once calibrated you will soon figure out how to use it. With videos explaining the calibration feature you are soon using it to test power and see if your AMU is being correct. This shows my AMU reading of 1:1 is good the meter shows 1:3 and when the meter is at 1:1 the AMU is 1:3. So it is a ballpark area of good matching.
Switches
Power switch turns on/off the lights which also shows the forward and reflective power of your match with the antenna. SWR, calibration and power are the middle switch modes. SWR is what you would expect and power from the radio is shown. In case you are wondering if your radio readout is correct. Calibration is the one that is self explanatory. Range is the left hand switch that goes from 5 watts up to 200 watts. So form QRP to well over your radio power output. There is a switch on the back when pressed in allows it to go to 400 watts. Then you ave the slim blue button which shows the instant measurement and also the average for a moment. Which is handy as you are needing to see where your readings are being taken from.
Illumination
I did open up the unit and change the lights to LED. The normal lamps are filament and have that low yellow glow, which is nice to see. But these lights are now on their way out and not visually pleasing now. Do not get me wrong, the illumination from the lamps are nice but you want something more in keeping with today's modern world. So I decided to change mine to blue and the meter needle seems to glow when lit. It does need a lot of unscrewing and drilling of holes as the lamps are glued in. Observing the polarity of the wires and the way the cables go you will need to remember that you have 2 lights inside. I went with 12 volt DC with resistors inside to match the power needed. Side by said there is no difference apart from brightness and colour change to the performance of the unit.
Overall a nice piece to have for your station Be it a reference item for your SWR checks or as a inline measuring device just so you can check to see if things are as they should. It is worth buying and it has a role in your setup even if it is a reference piece of equipment.
