Not just a C.B. aerial!
Review by
Do not be fooled into thinking this is just another aerial for Citizens' Band. Aside from its 3-section practically indestructible fibreglass construction, it has a secret in its capacitively coupled design. At 28 MHz (10 metres) this aerial is a 0.64-wave (the largest you can go to before the field collapses); and at 21 MHz (15 metres) it is virtually a half-wave. 24 MHz (12 metres) is a doddle; and its native 27 MHz (11 metres) will see a flat nearly 1:1 VSWR across both the CEPT/USA and UK bands.

Pro-tip: do not fit the ground-plane kit if you plan to use the aerial for Amateur Radio. The GP-kit will desensitise the aerial for 18, 21 and 28 MHz and raise the VSWR on those bands. And do not cut it or adjust the factory set tuning rings. An ugly choke balun is recommended, along with filling the PL-259 with silicone grease prior to installation. A Radio Amateur in the USA also recommends drilling another small angled hole just above the SO-239 crimp plate and filling the inside matching area with white Lithium grease to keep any moisture ingress at bay.

This aerial is quite whippy in the wind, so install it on a study pole. The maximum mounting size is 38.1 mm (see Metals4u for suitable thick-walled ali tubing). My installation is on a 48.4 mm "scaffold" pole and required two pole-to-pole clamps. The pole will act as part of the grounding system; and it is best to bond all of this to ground in case of static build-up and/or a lightning strike.
