Broad banded but expect some tinkering
Review by
Franco
I purchased this knowing it was a cheap and cheerful option that would tune across at least three HF bands.
There were no instructions included so you have to adjust the telescopic length to find the best SWR readings.
Having said that it will tune using an ATU quite easily across the 10m, 11m and 12m bands at minimum.
Performance is quite reasonable depending on band conditions and for the money it’s not bad at all in this respect.
The aluminium tube is very lightweight and bends a lot in high winds (see picture) but up to yet it has returned back to its upright position with no damage.
One of the provided jubilee clips broke when building the antenna so I had to replace it with one from an old Silver Rod.
Expect some tinkering and experimenting if you purchase this antenna. You might need a few spare jubilee clips as well.
Cannot say how long it will last with a few winters but it’s an affordable option for now whilst conditions are good on the 10, 11 and 12 meter bands. It also quickly compacts down to a small size making it an option for portable or temporary operations.
Not bad for what it costs considering how broadbanded it is, for this reason I gave it four stars.
