A very dependable professional antenna base
Review by
VA3PHP
This base is absolutely the best magmount I have ever seen or used, and yes, you can quote me on that.
I had ordered this with the AMPRO-160, the biggest and heftiest mobile antenna I'd ever seen, and I had contemplated using an existing 3-magnet base I had for a much smaller multi-band antenna. The photo of this Watson base compared with the much smaller one makes the old one look like a toy.
I'm very glad I spent the money and got this - a big base I feel very confident to run my new antenna with. The underside of each magnet is covered with a smooth satiny plastic layer. However, since this is a very new car I wanted to avoid any risk of marking the roof when I placed or remove the antenna mount, so I had ordered a pack of small self-adhesive vinyl squares ("Cricut Premium Vinyl") which I cut into circles and positioned on the car roof. These also help me place the antenna at the same position each time, to keep the SWR constant and seem to have no negative effect on the performance of the antenna.
