I was unsure as to buying this scanner because it seemed cheap. I worried about it being a false economy. I wanted a portable radio. My other radio is an aor ar-dv1. My main target frequency is the marine band, for my trips to the coast.
This radio is preprogrammed with many uk frequencies, and bands. With just a few key presses you can scan marine band, air band, 2m, 70cms, and more. I have a vague interest in Islam, and occasionally monitor local mosques to learn something. All these regions of the radio spectrum are easy to scan. I'm not a scanner master, but over the course of a week or two, I learned all I needed to enjoy the radio, without needing the manual.
It has no fm broadcast band, but if it did I expect it would "bleed" music all over other frequencies. On that note, I bought a Moonraker m-100 preamp, which has some basic bandpass facilities. That unit does help, but at 70% of the cost of the scanner, it is undeniable an expensive addition. You might want to buy a bigger antenna instead?
The bottom line is : a great purchase @ ~£100
