Xiegu x6100
Review by

The x6100 is a lovely radio to hold and use, the screen is very clear with a scope/waterfall.
The auto tuner is great and will tune a wet piece of string.
My only gripe with the radio is I found them to be glitchy, it is a software defined radio and my first radio turned into a brick and the second one got very very hot while operating.

This is the second Xiegu I have bought, the first being a G90. While the G90 is a good rig, its not the most portable. The X6100 is perfect size for putting in a rucksack with a LiFe Po4 battery for a days operating at 10W.
Build quality is of no concern. I have only had this for a few weeks, but I have made QSOs with Slovenia and Germany at 5w without any dramas.
I plan to use some of the other firmware, which can be added to a micro SD card. Remove the SD card and boot to official Xiegu firmware.
The only downside was that Moonraker were around £100 more expensive than purchasing direct from Radioddity

After its first charge it would not switch on. So I had to re install the firmware. It crashed again when I charged it a second time. What I have found is if you charge the radio and then switch the radio on then remove the charger the firmware will not crash again. You will need to do this every time you charge it.
A part from that I am happy with it. The build quality is good, sound is ok on the internal speaker. Had no issues with transmitted audio.

I have several QRP Transceivers, 2 x LAB 599, 2 x Icom IC-705 and 2 x Xiegu X6100 units (1 from Moonraker), run lots of tests between them all. So comments on the X 6100?, it is good, compared it on receive on 28MHz with the other big boys and even wkd VK6 on 28MHz ssb (Dec 2021), compared with others IC-705 and the Discovery TX-500 there were no differences in intermod or overload and IMD -55db min, same reports on TX. Good internal atu, good internal battery pack, gud internal antenna sweep analyser (NICE), good SDR but needs a slight software mod to the noise reduction software (sent advice to Xiegu). Can I fault it? no not really for the price, however, slacken the VFO knob off or remove the washer behind the knob, great value for money at that price! and the XPA 125B mates well with 0.800mw input for 75 watts opt if you want to use it as a portable or base station unit, and it has a super ATU.27/1/2022 5****************

This is a really nice radio and easy to use I haven't even read the instructions yet. I was able to use it straight away. It's still in working progress with firmware updates, And having a built-in ATU it has tuned my antennas really quickly. Looking forward to going portable with it soon.
