My primary use is for portable/holiday operation with either FT8 data mode or SSB voice transmission. Firstly this is a fairly new SDR radio with a Linux operating system, it shares many features from the previous X-6100 and many improvements too. There is a online X-6200 forum for users which Xiegu take note of and any requests for improvements or features have been so far quickly actioned.
The current version of firmware is v1.0.3 that is significantly improved from v.1.0.0 that was reviewed in RadCom, whilst the radio was still then a prototype. Updating the firmware involves writing to an SD card and placing it into the X-6200 and following the Xiegu update instructions.
Things I really like about the X-6200 is the bright display and in particular the built in ATU which seems to match a great range of impedances.
Time to charge the removable battery pack from fully flat to full charge is currently around 7 hours, this is being looked at, as full charge is thought to be reached sooner.
For FT8 transmission the best option seems to be using a USB cable into either an Android or Windows phone/tablet. For Android users the FT8CN app works well and that is what I use, for Windows tablets WSJT-X can be used.
The BT and WiFi features of the X-6200 are being looked into as currently BT doesn't allow use of all BT headphones for audio, confident that can be fixed. WiFi connection does work, but for FT8 USB cable seems more resilient and faster. I have used my X-6200 with 5 watts FT8 portable with a telescopic antenna and worked all around Europe from EA6, which was exactly what I wanted this radio for.
It is a fun radio for the price. It lacks PL tones for the 10m band repeaters. It can get very warm to the touch on high power, various cooling methods have been tried by others such as stick on heat sinks or cooling fans, both work, but are not needed.
Other more expensive portable HF radios are available from other manufacturers.
