FT710 aess/field

The ft710 represents incredible bang for your buck, it's small enough and light enough to take to most portable activations ( I don't recommend backpacking with it), I purchased the radio as a field radio but soon purchased the extra speaker which can be adjusted for individual preference.
The receiver is fantastic as is the display, I do recommend not using the fabric handle supplied with the radio and purchase the normal one which fits the ft450d/ft710 which is £8.
The performance of this radio is very impressive all round and at £895 it's a bargain.

I've only had the FT710 field for just over a week so on first impressions are good. Out of the box the priority must be to at least have a read of the user handbook, Yes, I know you want to see the shiney new toy!!!
Ok, handbook leafed through and onto set up and switch on. Bit different to my other Yaesu's so you need to follow the book.
Took a bit of getting used to tough menus but now up and running. Sound on the internal speaker is good. Using the Moonraker multiband vertical ae tunes up ok on internal tuner. First impressions are very good.

Nice upgrade for the shack

Brilliant audio reports on send and receive little bit of fiddling about for setup on digital modes, main thing to remember is to change mode manually to data even when using the inbuilt pre-set memory, that deals with comms speed and levels but doesn't change operating mode. One to watch!

Good clarity on screen with a multitude of settings to customise the view and touch screen to boot.

Great set highly recommended.

Couldn't resist the "sneeze pun"! Of all the radios I've researched, Yaesu have always had that extra appeal. The FT-710 comes recommended by the RSGB too, when they send you your new Licence & info. It's a really nice radio, although complex (has many, many tweakable features!), it is easy to operate "out of the box". The touch screen is very nice, but you can plug in a Mouse to get the mouse Cursor on-screen and hit exactly what you want. Fine-tuning is a doddle. Poor eyesight? Plug in a DVI-D Monitor and use the mouse on that instead! My only reasons for 4 stars on Value are that it does not come Wide-banded; e.g. you can't chat to old pals on 11 Meters. Also a lack of a second Antenna port. Apart from that, it is a fantastic radio. Love the quality.

This is my second Yaesu Ft710 from moonraker , I was very impressed with the unit being excellent on noise reduction and easy to use and set up so bought a second one, this time the field version for more portable operating.The display is nice and bright and sound quality good , The comprehensive menu is easy to navigate and soon comes naturally. nice and compact size easy to fit in a rucksack . Service from moonraker was excellent both units delivered v quick and nicely packaged with tracking information supplied.

Really pleased with this radio . It was despatched , and arrived quickly , and once I'd found where the basic functions I needed to adjust were , which didn't take too long , I had a nice clear display on band scope and the sound was really great from the built in speaker. After talking to a couple of other more experienced HF operators running the same set I took advice on TX settings and am now getting really good audio reports . I also now have the option to make use of the full 100W .

At first, I thought this transceiver was a cut down budget owing to its lack of knobs and buttons. However, having had a play on it, it is a very well thought out radio making a complex piece of kit very very easy to use. My only gripe is that variable filtering is not possible outside the amateur bands, although the user can select AM or AM-Narrow which works well on broadcast shortwave bands.
Yuesu has dropped a bombshell with this radio because it is going to be very difficult, for the competition to compete against it, including the other Japanese companies like Icom.

Purchased this to supplement my G90 for shack and field use and wow! what a lovely bit of kit it is, not powered it up yet just waiting for some bibs n bobs to use it ...got a mouse and larger screen to help with older eyes lol. I'm really impressed with the quality of the rig , but there again Yaesu have always built cracking radios ..I still have my original FT290/790 mk1's and still work.... what more can you say?
