AV508
Review by
Brought this desktop microphone to work with my Yaesu FT710 have adjusted my microphone gain and had some fantastic feedback from many stations regarding my audio the stock microphone works well which came with the FT710 but wanted to try a to boost my talk power the Av-508 seems to have done this at a fraction of the cost of a Yaesu microphone. I am more than happy with it’s performance, you will need the optional RJ45 lead and a little time to make adjustments to your personal audio output of the radio

Great little desk mic
Review by
Bought this little desk mic on the strength of some user reviews - and then a write-up in the RSGB's Radcom - very pleased with it. Much better than the original mic supplied with my venerable FT950 and good reports on audio. Very pleased.

I bought this mike to pair with my IC7300, more for the convenience of being able to lock the ptt open whilst logging contacts on the PC, I was not expecting an improvement in audio quality

Well I was wrong. A qso with a local friend and we got the gain and the bass and treble levels right and sounding like my natural voice. Not only was that achieved but I have noticed an increase in contacts replying to my call.
This cannot be as a result of my sparkling repartee, but more punch in my outgoing audio.
I'm really pleased at the price this little mike is great value.

Purchased 21/2/22 AV-508 + Yaesu lead
Review by
I purchased this for my as a replacement for hand mike as supplied with my 450d.and after reading the somewhat mediocre reviews of their new m-70 microphone. The difference in price it was worth a punt at buying this one. Firstly the delivery from Moonraker as usual was exemplary arriving within 2 days. Secondly as I unpacked the micophone the build quality was at this price excellent, weighty solid construction and after a quick read through the supplied instructions and inserting 2xAA batteries (not supplied) connected it up and switched my rig on. The AV-508 has various controls for set up, on off switch, vfo up down etc and on calling CQ on 40m made contact with a station in Kent (I am nr Liverpool) asked if he would kindly assist with the audio settings and after going through the rigs menu soon discovered for my voice, Gain was normal and EQ 4 was producing perfect "punchy audio with excellent clarity".I was happy with this and although conditions weren't very good for DX called a CQ and was pleasantly surprised to have a call back from a station in Ohio who also said the adio was well above average with a 5-8 report. So in conclusion I am exceedingly happy with my purchase and would recommend the AV-508 to anyone wanting to upgrade to a deck mike.(i can only comment on my findings with the 450d, the mike is suited also to Icom and Kenwood rigs)
Thank you Moonraker. Allan
