The reason the Yaesu FTDX-101MP is supplied with a proprietary built in power supply is because the transceiver uses 18.8V and 50V making it unsuitable for 3rd party power supplies.

Output Power

The most apparent difference between the two transceivers by Yaesu is the output power. Above, we mention that the FTDX-101D provides 100W. With that in mind, 100W of power is still quite impressive compared to other models within this price range. 

However, it doesn't hold a candle to the upgraded FTDX-101MP with provides 200W. You get double the wattage. The benefit of 100 Watts of extra power pays off in performance.

Power Supply & External Speaker

We have already mentioned that the FTDX-101MP comes with a built in power supply. So you do not need to worry about which power supply to buy. But guess what - you also do not need to worry about which external speaker to use!. The FTDX-101MP comes with a combined speaker/power supply combination. This matching set makes the FTDX101MP not only a high-quality radio but a picture of beauty.

Performance

The FTDX-101 series was a newly developed ‘next generation’ VC-Tune RF preselector further improving the high-performance RF tuning system - fine tuning at its best. The FTDX-101MP comes fitted with the VC-Tube unit in both receivers (the main receiver and sub receiver). The FTDX-101D only has the CV-Tune unit in the main receiver but you can upgrade the sub-receiver if required at a later date.

One feature of the FDTX-101 that stands out is the remote connection capability. You can access the radio remotely using either a LAN or internet connection. It also has an automatic tuner that can be pretty handy while operating from your cabin. 

While the performance of the FTDX-101MP doesn't overcast the FTDX-101D massively, some aspects make this radio better overall but at a price. 

Display

Whichever model you choose, one area where the Yaesu FTDX-101 takes the lead is the display. Many amateur HAMs love the look and feel of the radio for good reasons. For starters, you can't beat the large touch panel with its precise colour scheme. Moreover, the waterfall display system looks outstanding.
