Immediately upon opening the box, you can tell the AV-508 is high quality. It has a professional and sturdy feel, sure to fit right next to your modern hand radio transceiver.

The AV-508

The AV-508 isn’t your run-of-the-mill microphone—it has several components that ensure ultra-clear quality. 

The Base

The base of the microphone has several control buttons: the Push-To-Talk (PTT), the PTT lock, up and down options (if you have compatible models), and memory or VFO selection.

A helpful LED “on-air” indicator also shows when the PTT is activated. The power button on the top panel makes it easy to locate. 

The Rear

You'll find two connection sockets at the back — one for a Kenwood or Yeasu radio and one for ICOM radios. Which one you use will depend on which radio you have. The fact it is compatible with these popular brands makes this microphone a great choice.

The Bottom

The battery compartment is underneath the base. The microphone takes two AA-sized batteries. There is also a switch to distinguish which radio you're connecting to (Kenwoord/Yeasu or ICOM). 

A mode switch lets you choose between Single Side Band (SSB) or FM radio.  A volume adjustment control lets you fine-tune the audio output to your transceiver.
